It’s pretty obvious when puppies are 4 weeks old that they’re more like dogs. Playing enthusiastically, they’re running around and wagging their tails.
As the puppies get older, they’ll start moving away from the other puppies to defecate. They’re eating solid food more and more.
Since it’s warm, puppies will spend more time outside. Puppies are messy eaters, so feeding them in the yard is a good idea.
At this point, or soon after, some mom dogs stop cleaning up after their pups. It’s now up to the breeder to keep things clean and smell good. This week, many puppies will get wormed again.
Puppy vocalizations are getting stronger at this stage. It’s common for the litter to greet their mother loudly when she returns, and to follow her out of the whelping box whenever she leaves.
