Six Weeks Old

6-week-old puppy dogs are fully weaned and eating five or six small meals of solid food each day. A six-week-old puppy no longer relies on his mother’s milk, but he still requires her help and guidance.

In some countries, puppies are taken to their new homes when they are around this age. It is, however, not a good idea, and can result in a puppy with poor bite inhibition and that is challenging to manage. Cooperslane puppies are not placed into their forever homes until they are at least eight weeks old.

Bite inhibition training continues to be important at this age. The puppies are learning not to bite too much from their mother and siblings.

The puppies won’t be ready to leave home for another couple of weeks because they need this essential interaction.

Puppy growth is not as fast as it was previously. But the puppies will continue to grow strongly for the next few months. The puppies will be treated with another round of anti-parasite medication this week.
